This is Also Just Another Trend!!

When the first Sri Lankan corona patient was identified on 11th March 2020, people panicked and started to collect food and all the necessary items as soon as possible. From that day onwards, day and night all the members in the family eagerly gathered around the TV and watched news on how many got infected and how many recovered each day. Not only that, I’m sure each and every person who is reading this might have surfed through internet to search on whether there are any vaccines, how many deaths reported worldwide etc

I want to ask a big question from all of you. Are you really interested about this now as were before?

My personal answer is no. In our home, on the first 3 weeks, we wore a mask even when we step out to a simple matter. We washed our hands more than 10 times using sanitizers, hand wash, Dettol and all other fancy products which kills 99% of germs in hands. Surprisingly, my sister also got panicked and introduced a disinfection procedure which we should follow if we come from outdoor. First, we should keep our clothes and shoes outside and bath form the outside shower using body wash and Dettol. Then we had to clean all the items we took outside including the little safety pins using sanitizer.

However, now we just enter our home and bath from indoor washroom using regular soap. (no Dettol or sanitizer at all). 😋

During the first few weeks, everyday my grandma used to make smoke using Kohomba leaves and all the other ayurvedic stuff in order to kill the germs. But now we are doing it only to get rid of mosquitos.

Not only that, on the first few weeks, our dinner table topic was Corona and now it has slightly changed to politics. 😂

Honestly, if someone asked me now how many got infected today and how many recovered, I wouldn’t know the answer exactly. If they ask the same question from me about 3 or 4 days back, I could have even done a presentation. I’m quite sure the situation of each and every one of us is somewhat similar to my situation.

When time goes on, eventually interest of people tend to withdraw from one topic to another like when the fears of bombs of 2019 Easter Attack and the Tsunami in 2004. Even on social media at the beginning, there were much discussions on our heroes in the military and health sectors, but now the focus as shifted more towards politics. Mark my words guys, within few weeks, people will completely forget corona and will get excited on upcoming election and act accordingly. 😑

The best lesson I learnt from this quarantine period is that we are more focused on trending issues rather than the actual issues. Sadly corona is also just another trend... 😶
