The King of Pop- Michael Jackson
‘The King of Pop’
While everybody is under confinement in the time of COVID-19 outbreak, I could recall that I came across the popular music hit, ‘Heal the World’ several times in a row during the week passed. Therefore, I thought of doing some research about the exclusive voice giving life to the lyrics of the song.
Nicknamed the ‘King of Pop’, Michael Joseph Jackson was a multi-talented musical entertainer of the 20th century. Known to and loved by the music-lovers of the whole world, he was a best-selling American singer, songwriter and dancer.
Born to a family of 10 children, all who made marks in the music industry, Jackson and his siblings were always supported by their parents, mother-a homemaker and father-a guitarist who had given up his musical aspirations to provide for his family as a crane operator.
Identifying the talents of his sons, Jackson’s father was never hesitating to mold them into a musical group in the early 1960s which later was known as the ‘Jackson 5’. Thus, the little Michael Jackson began his career at the age of 5 under his father’s encouragement.
To everyone’s amaze, little Jackson emerged as the group’s lead vocalist outstretching a remarkable range for a young performer.
Jackson was always an idol impressing the audiences all around the world with his mesmerizing ability to convey complex emotions. May be that was the reason for him to launch his solo career at the age of 13, despite ‘Jackson 5’ already riding a great success.
To name some of his superlative pieces of work, ‘Thriller’, ‘Bad’, ‘Off the Wall’, ‘Music and Me’, ‘Got to Be There’, ‘Ben’, ‘Forever Michael’ , ‘We Are The World’, ‘Heal World’ and many more paved him the way to reach a milestone of success.
Jackson’s achievements showcased the diverse nature of his work. He was honored with a Grammy Award for ‘Billie Jean’ in appreciation of his songwriting skills. Further, he received some other awards for his singles suchlike ‘Thriller’ and ‘Beat It’ as a tribute for his vocal performances.
The famous step, ‘Moonwalk’ and other dance sequences choreographed by Jackson himself, later became characteristics defining his identity for the generations following.
While filming a commercial for PepsiCo in 1984, Jackson was badly injured and suffered burns to his face and scalp. As a result, he had to undergo a plastic surgery which made his face and especially, his nose, dramatically altered.
In 1993, a life-turning incident took place in Jackson’s life. To his misfortune, there were allegations of child molestation against him when a 13-year-old boy claimed that the pop star had fondled him. Since there was no evidence supporting the claim, Jackson managed to settle the case out of court with the boy’s family.
Several years later, there was a decline in his career. He defaulted on the loan owed on his Neverland Ranch in 2008. Further, he sued to block the auction of his personal items from home the next year. Thereafter, he announced a series of his concerts as his ‘Final Curtain Call’ in order to make some money for the time being.
Jackson died at the age of 50 on June 25, 2009 after suffering a cardiac arrest at home in Los Angeles. The reports later revealed that his cause of death was a lethal overdose of a drug or acute propofol intoxication.
Jackson’s death caused an outpouring of grief and sympathy of the public. Monuments were built all over the world in memory of a great pop star.
Jackson’s three children Prince, Paris and Blanket whom he looked after with love and care, being a single father, were placed in care of their grandmother as dictated in his will. As per their father’s wishes, the three kids were largely kept out of limelight.
Even today, his work remains alive in our hearts. That is always the power of an unrepeatable personality. On behalf of all your beloved fans, I would like to pay gratitude for making a world inspired and healed with your wonderful soul.
THANK YOU, MJ!!!!
