The "Auspicious time"



Being a Sri lankan and being a buddhist mean you know about නැකත, the "auspicious time".There are few back to back නැකතs we have to adhere on to when it comes to Sinhala-Tamil new year for an example.As years passed by you grow up and tend to think more openly about everything and my belief on නැකත has faded away until a freaking chinese guy decided to eat a bat! Yeah Im talking about covid-19 or corona or whatever you like to call it.

I came to the university in late 2015 and it was no smooth sailing whatsoever.First we got hit by an old businessman who wanted to run a private medical faculty (yeah you know what Im talking about) and for the sake of the future of free healthcare and education in this country we had to take actions and boy we did! We were on a struggle for 10 months finally to emerge victorious with some smile on our sunburned faces.In medical curriculum 10 months is a pretty big period and still the repurcussions of that haunts us inside hospital wards.

Time to time non academic peeps got stimulated and they had their say in strikes.University closing and opening has become no big deal and we got used to it.Our beloved E-Fac fellas had their say too and it cost us an International quiz competition for which we were looking forwards for months! Through countless number of academic breaks finally we came to the 4th year (official) of uni life hoping for a good solid two years until passing out but destiny had different plans for us like getting bullied by a nanometer sized creature.

Well I wonder how long this will go on.Future looking so blurred to be honest.Will there be anymore academic breaks? anymore pandemics? even the allmighty will scratch his head in this case.But being uni students means we are ultra optimists right! There will be one day,yeah one day inside our beloved gymnasium we will be receiving the all important "degree" and on that day Im gonna say it out loud that "I came to uni on a freaking awesome නැකත but boy I made it!"

වෙනදාට අප්‍රේල් මාසය මෙසේ නොවේ. වසරේ ප්‍රීතිමත්ම මාසය ලෙස වෙනදා අපි හැඳින්වුයේ අප්‍රේල් මාසය යි. වසන්තය රැගෙන එන මාසය වූ අප්‍රේල්, මෙතරම් ඉක්මනින් වසන්තය යළි රැගෙන යතැයි කිසිවෙක් සිතුවේ නැත. එහෙත් ඒ සියල්ල සිදුවී හමාරය. මේ සටහන ඒ මතක ස්මරණය නොකරමින් ස්මරණය කරන්නට ය. ........ වසර 30ක කුරිරු යුද්ධය නිමාවීමත් සමඟ බෝම්බයක් පිපිරුණු හඬක් දෙවුන්දර තුඩුවේ සිට පේදුරු තුඩුව දක්වා ඇසුණේ නැත. යළි පිබිදුණු රටක්, නැවුම් බලාපොරොත්තු ගොන්නක් ඔස්සේ නැගිටින්නට ප්‍රයත්න දරමින් සිටියේ ය. එහෙත් ගතවූයේ වසර 10ක් පමණි. මුළු රටටම යළිත් ඒ අමිහිරි පිපිරුම් හඬට සවන් දීමට සිදුවිය. තවත් පිරිසකට, තමන් ජීවිතයේ කිසිදා අත්නොවිඳි අත්දැකීමක් සමඟ අසරණ වූ ඉරණමකට ගොදුරු වන්නට සිදුවිය. ඉස්ලාම් අන්තවාදී ත්‍රස්ත කල්ලියක් විසින්, රටේ ප්‍රධානතම කතෝලික දේවස්ථාන 3ක් සහ ප්‍රමුඛ පෙළේ සංචාරක හෝටල් 4ක් ඉලක්ක කරගෙන එල්ල කළ ඒ මරාගෙන මැරෙන බෝම්බ ප්‍රහාරය, අප්‍රේල් 21 දිනය යළි කිසිදා මෙරට මෙන්ම ලෝකවාසී පුරවැසියෙකුට අමතක නොවන දිනයක් බවට පත් කළේ ය. ජේසුස් වහන්සේ මළවුන්ගෙන් නැඟිටීම සිහිපත් කෙරෙන ඒ උතුම් පාස්කු ඉරිදා දිනය, ලේ කඳුළු ගංගා...

|| A Badly Miss - Not for One, but for All ||

After finishing the usual afternoon chat with my girlie, I went for a short nap, which I am usually used to do during home stays. Later, I woke up to the SMS beep alert of my mobile and when looked into, saw a news alert stating that the re-imposed curfew will again be lifted for 10 hours(6am - 4pm), this Thursday. With that, I regained my post-somnolent consciousness and was just wondering that something is badly missing from our expected daily routine, at this time of the year. I thought about it while having a ginger-flavoured plain tea and came up with what is missing. ........... Before I started my university days, life at this time of the year was so simple such that, you know only two or three more days left to begin the New Year vacation of school and you prepare for it extensively.
